I am a long-time fan of the Republic of Consciousness Prize for Small Presses, which is now in its ninth year. The 2025 longlist was announced recently:
- Bullaun Press: There’s a Monster Behind the Door by Gaëlle Bélem (tr. Karen Fleetwood & Laëtitia Saint-Loubert)
- CB Editions: Invisible Dogs by Charles Boyle
- Divided Publishing: How to Leave the World by Marouane Bakhti (tr. Lara Vergnaud)
- Holland House Books: Crooked Seeds by Karen Jennings
- Les Fugitives: Célina by Catherine Axelrad (tr. Philip Terry)
- Peninsula Press: Mother Naked by Glen James Brown
- Prototype: The Seers by Sulaiman Addonia
- Rough Trade: Goodlord by Ella Frears
- Scotland Street Press: Somewhere Else by Jenni Daiches
- Splice: Daybook by Nathan Knapp
The publisher names above link to the individual publisher pages on each book.
I’m not intending to read the whole longlist, but it is an intriguing selection, and I will be having a look at some. In the meantime, congratulations to all!
